Splendid Facts about Lord Shiva
Lord Shiva never prefers to live a sophisticated life style but he used to live the life of a Sage. As per ancient legend, once, as per the request of Ma Parvati, Lord Shiva had ordered the Divine architect, Viswakarma, to build a palace for his family. When a beautiful palace was built by Viswakarma, and when Lord Shiva decides to enter into it, suddenly Ravana came there, and asked Shiva to grant the palace as a boon to him. Then Lord Shiva wilfully gifted it to Ravana, and he began to live in the open air in the holy Mount Kailash, along with his family and his divine attendants.
Why Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of a Lingam?
Since Lord Shiva doesn’t want him to be worshipped in a particular form, hence, he has chosen the form of Shiva Lingam.
Why Lord Shiva neglect the flower Thazhambu for his worship?
Once, Lord Shiva used to wear the flower Thazhambu on his body wilfully. But since the Thazhambu had spoken in favour of Lord Brahma and told lies, Lord Shiva rejected the flower Thazhambu for his worship.

Though Lord Shiva plays a main role at the time of destruction, yet, the reason for calling him as the God of destruction is, since he destructs our bad habits like lust, anger and greed, and gives good knowledge, wisdom and bravery.
