Thiruporur Kandaswamy temple

Thiruporur Kandaswamy temple…Thiruporur Kandaswamy temple also popularly known as Thiruporur Murugan Temple is situated in Thiruporur, a panchayat town in Chengalpattu district of Tamil Nadu, is dedicated to Lord Murugan. The temple is open from 6:30 am – 12:30 pm and 3.30 – 8 pm. Four daily rituals and many annual festivals are being held at the temple, out of which the Vaikasi Visagam celebrated during the Tamil month of Vaikasi (May – June), Kanthasasti festival and Navarathri festival being the most popular ones.

As per legend, Lord Murugan waged a war, (War means Por in Tamil) with the demons like Tharakasuran in Thiruporur, and hence this place came to be known as THIRU PORUR. While on the way to the Pothigai Hills, Rishi Agastya visited this place. As per the temple history, long back, the present temple place was submerged in a deluge. A sage named Chidambara Adigal was residing in Madurai and a divine voice asked him to unearth the statue under a palm tree. He dug out the statue and built a temple around it. There is a separate shrine dedicated to him in the temple and he is given special respect during the Vaikasi Visagam festival. During the last event of the festival, he is depicted merging with the presiding deity.

The temple is believed to have been built by the Pallava Kings. Chidambara Swamigal, who was believed to be a descendant of the Sangam age poets, rebuilt the temple during the 17th century. Lord Murugan as Kandaswamy is praised by Chidambara Swamigal in 726 verses. Arunagiri naadhar, a 16th-century saint has glorified the temple in his work in Thirupugazh.

MURUGAN SONGS

When you utter “, Muruga” won’t your heart yield to my plea? When I invite you to my abode won’t you come with compassion?

Even if I mention your name once or meditate on your feet, you provide me, your grace. Hence, I utter your name day and night.

Did you dislike me for any errors I committed inadvertently? You are the manifestation of love and beauty. Did you get angry at me? Please put up with my deficiencies, O, Lord of lords who dwells in Thiruchendur!

There are several devotees here,
Please give all of them freedom,
Oh end of the endless Vedas,
Oh end of Asuras, Oh Vadivela of the desired form.
Shower your grace, I surrender, surrender
Oh Subrahmanya, Oh Velava who is like a flame,
Which is angry and drives away all ills, I surrender.
Oh, son of Lord Parameshwara,
Oh flame which grows inside a cave,
Please give me a work and its result,
Oh commander of devas, I surrender, I surrender
You are the Consort of Devayanai with a beautiful smile and lovely teeth looking like pearls!
You are Saravanabhava holding the powerful spear called Sakthivel! You are the foremost seed for the Heaven.

You are the protector god Vishnu, Destroyer Maheswara and Creator god Brahma, the emerald-green and golden-complexioned. You are our favourite god! ”
Will You be kind enough to come and protect me one of these days?

Will the twelve arms and six faces will protect us from all directors. You fought the righteous war, Oh Great One, Oh our beloved Lord Thiruporur Muruga!
