Murugan Bhakti

Murugan Bhakti was at its peak during the 15th Century AD, after the incarnation of the great Saint and Murugan Devotee, Sri Arunagirinathar. The famous work Thiruppugazh which was written by him, had shaken the souls of the Murugan devotees, and from then onwards, lot of temples of Lord Muruga were arisen all over Tamil Nadu. Separate websites are also developed by the Murugan devotees, in order to tell about the significance of Lord Muruga.
The Murugan Bhakti cult explains the various worship methods of Muruga, and it also tells about the significance of taking “KAVADI” for Lord Muruga. Still now numerous Murugan Devotees are taking Kavadi, such as milk, paneer, spear and flower. Murugan Bhakti was also spread in some of the Asian countries, like Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. This was happened, when some of the businessmen from Tamil Nadu, travelled to those Asian countries for the purpose of spreading their trade, and while doing their own occupation, they also developed the “MURUGAN BHAKTI”, in those Asian countries, by building some temples for Lord Muruga.

Still now Hindus belonging to Mudaliar and Chettiar Community, considers Lord Muruga as their beloved god, and for some them, their Kula Devata is also Lord Muruga. Thirutani Murugan is believed to be the Kula Devata for thousands of Murugan Devotees. Some Pandiyan Kings also print the image of Lord Muruga on their golden coins, and during the last century, postage stamps containing the image of Lord Muruga were also introduced by some foreign countries.

In India, postage stamps containing the images of Sri Arunagirinathar and Sri Kripanandavariar were introduced before some years ago, and these two saints were considered to be the staunch devotees of Lord Muruga. The Saurashtrians of Madurai worships Lord Muruga as their Kula Devata, and for some of the ancient Saurashtra people, Lord Muruga had given his divine vision, in recognition to their bhakti. According to me, for gods like Muruga, they have attained everything right from their birth, and for them, nothing is needed. But, since, we are all born as ordinary mortals, it is our most important duty to worship the Hindu deities like Lord Muruga, since without the help of Lord Muruga, we can’t even breathe for a single moment in our life.
