Vamsi Das Babaji

Vamsi Das Babaji (20th century AD) was born in Jamalpur district of Bangladesh, in a pious Hindu Bengali family. His birth name was Bhairava. Vamsi Das lived in Nabadvipa, West Bengal under a tree on the banks of the Holy River Ganges, and used to perform meditation on Lord Krishna.

The great Krishna devotees Gosvami Ṭhakura and Prabhupada used to praise him for his sincere devotion on Lord Krishna. Once he had the divine vision of Lord Krishna and Mata Rukmani at Vrindavan.

He used to regularly worship a Krishna idol, which he always used to keep with him in his cloth bag. Babaji Maharaj used to perform puja to the idol, and offer Prasad to the holy Lord. Miraculously, whatever Prasad, he offers, the idol would eat it within a few seconds of time. Through this great miracle, large number of people became his followers and devotees. He used to frequently go to Vrindavan, and have the nice darshan of Lord Krishna in the temples, and also went to many holy places like Kailash Mansarovar, Muktinath, Kedarnath, Pandharpur and Badrinath.

In a Krishna bhakti magazine, the details about Babaji, and his miracles and religious travels were mentioned. Rarely, he used to interact with spiritual sages and also used to clear their doubts on spirituality.

He used to compose and sung songs in praise of Lord Krishna, and would give spiritual discourses on Bhagavat Gita and Bhagavatham among the people. He used to smoke cigar, and he would also ask his devotees to smoke it, in order to relieve their prolonged illness. After rendering spiritual service for many years, he attained Samadhi on the day of Shravan Shukla Chaturthi.

Let us worship the great saint and be blessed.
