Sirkazhi Sattainathar Temple

Sattainathar temple, Sirkazhi also called Brahmapureeswarar temple, Thoniappar temple and as Muthu Sattainatar Temple is a famous Shiva Temple which is located in Sirkali, Tamil Nadu.

The temple was praised by the Nayanmar Saints in the Holy Text, Thevaram. Lord Bhramapureeswarar, Thoniappar with Periyanayaki, Sattainathar also called as Vatukanathar shrines are present in this temple, and at this sacred temple, once when Sambandar as a child cried for milk, he had been fed milk by Ma Parvathi on the banks of the Holy temple tank. Due to that, Sambandar got good knowledge and he sung few songs in praise of Lord Shiva and Ma Parvati, and from his mouth, he declared that they are the divine parents for the entire universe, and his statement was acknowledged by Lord Nandi, the divine bull, by nodding his head. As per ancient legend, Ma Kali had once worshipped Lord Brahmapureeswarar, and hence during ancient times, this temple was also called as Kalieeswarar Temple.

The temple is maintained by Dharmapuram Adheenam, and they are discharging their part of work in a wonderful manner. There is a separate shrine for Lord Sattanathar, a form of Bhairava, and he is mainly worshipped in order to get relieved from court cases and police cases. I have visited this temple and had the wonderful darshan of Lord Muthu Sattainathar during August 2022.

The temple is big in size, and it is built by the Cholas. The temple priests perform the pujas (rituals) during festivals and on a daily basis. The temple rituals are performed six times a day. Each ritual comprises of sacred bath, decoration, food offering, lighting of lamps and showing it before the deities. Musical instruments like Nagaswaram and Tavil also would be played before the shrines in order to honour and also to entertain the great almighty.
