Thirukkadavur Amridhakadeswarar Temple Chithirai Utsavam

Thirukkadavur Amridhakadeswarar Temple Chithirai Utsavam. Sri Kala Samharamoorthy Chithirai Utsavam in Thirukkadavur Abhirami Sametha Sri Amridhakadeswarar Temple.

The wonderful Sri Abhirami Sametha Sri Amirthakadeswarar Temple is situated in Thirukkadavur of Mayiladuthurai district which belongs to Dharmapuram Atheenam. In the Puranic period, Markandeyar hugged the Shivalinga when Lord Yama Dharma threw the rope to take the life of the devotee Markandeyar. At that time Lord Shiva appeared as Samharamurthy and performed Yama Samharam (Destroyed Lord Yama into ashes). Later Lord Shiva brought him back to life as per the request of Bhumadevi. Lord gave the boon of Chiranjeevi to Markandeyar forever.

Amirthagateswarar Abhirami Temple is an ancient Shiva temple, and in this temple Lord Shiva is called as Amirthagateswarar, since he saved his devotee Markandeya from the clutches of the death god Lord Yama, and made him to become a Chiranjeevi. In this temple, Mata Parvati is worshipped as Abhirami. It is located in Thirukkadaiyur, Tamil Nadu.

It is one of the most visited places as it is the place where Yaman Samharam was performed for the devotee Markandeyar.

Thus, it is believed that if we perform special homams here to pray for longevity, get married at the age of 60, Bhimarathi Shanti at the age of 70, Satabhishekam at the age of 80, Kanakabhishekam at the age of 90, Puranabhishekam at the age of 100, and worship Swami Ambal, you will get long life. Due to such reasons, thousands of devotees visit this temple every day and have darshan of Swami.

In order to explain the history of this temple, the Yama Samharam program is held every year in the Brahmotsavam held in the month of Chitrai. On this occasion, Kala Samharamurthy, along with Palambikai, got up to the Veeranadana Mandapam and performed Veeranatanam. Later, Yaman chases Markandeya in a buffalo vehicle and Yaman would be killed by Lord Shiva. A historical event was also held in which Goddess Bhumada, who could not bear the weight of the earth, prayed to Lord Shiva to relieve her pain due to the destruction of Yamadarman and the death of the earth.

Mahadeeparathan was followed by Kala Samharamurthy with Panchamurthys and Vethiula with Palambhikai. Thousands of devotees would participate in this sacred event in order to have the darshan of Swami.
