In the heart of Alappuzha district is located Vatamular and Umadevi temple, Thondankulangara shiva temple, Irattakkulangara shiva temple and Champakasserill temple. It is to be noted that 9kms north of alappuzha is situated a place known as Mannancherry. This place is blessed with Mannancherry Thrikovil Mahadeeva temple.
It is a very old siva temple of Alappuzha. There are two shrines of sacred Shiva Lingam in this temple complex. It is to be remembered that one is a swayambhoo linga and the other is an installed one in the olden days.
In the taluk of Arkutti are located Shiva temple at Panangad, kumbalam siva temple, ammanezhath siva temple at Aroor, Nalppathenneswaram Mahadevar temple at Panavally, Shiva temple at Kumbalam and Thrichattukulam Mahadevar temple. In the sub-town of Ambalappuzha is located at Chitambareshar and Umadevi temple.
In the town of Chengannur are located the Edanad siva temple and this temple is also known as Aratakandan Kavu, Manthuka Shiva temple, on the bank of river pampa is situated the Thrikkayil Shiva temple, Chengannur Mahadeva temple and Sri Mahadevar temple. In this particular temple, on the day of Aarattuon Thiruvaathira of month Makaram and on Thiruvathira of month Dhanu, the flag hoisting is festival are celebrated.
In Erattakulangara that is just half -kilometer north from Ambalapuzha junction is located Sri Mahadeva temple. In this temple, three pujas are performed in daily. With pond, the temple is west facing. These temples are thronged by devotees and pilgrims on the auspicious day of Shivarathri with special pujas and rituals.
