Kalpathy Viswanathaswamy Temple in Palakkad

Sri Viswanathaswamy temple is based in the holy town referred as Kalpathy, in the district of Palakkad, in the state of Kerala in Southern India. The main deity of this temple is Viswanathar (Lord Shiva) and his consort is none. The holy tree of this temple is Jack tree.

The holy water of this temple is Well water. The agamam or pooja of this temple is known as Kameeyam. This temple is nearly 500-1000 years old in this region. The historical name of this holy place is Kalpathy.

The main festivals of this temple are Maha Sivarathiri, Markali Tiruvaathirai, Aippasi Annabhishekam, Deepavalli, New Year day, Navarathri, Pongal, Onam, Vishnu, Malayalam and English New Year days and other Lord Shiva related festivals in this particular shrine.

The temple’s specialty is that the Lord is Swayambu murthy in the temple. The temple remains open for devotees and pilgrims from early morning to mid- noon and later in the late evening to dusk. It is the most sought after ancient Shiva temple in the district, region and south India.

It is to be noted that most of the pujas and rituals to Lord Shiva are performed according to ancient Hindu rules and regulations plus Vedic practices at large. The head priest of this temple is in-charge of all the events and functions of this temple. Devotees and pilgrims who are visiting this temple follow the strict rules and regulation of this temple with great dedication and devotion. Men don’t wear shirt and walk bear into this temple and women wear the traditional saree.
