Dadhichi Jayanti is the birth anniversary of Dadhichi Maharshi. Dadichi still remains the greatest example for sacrifice. When Lord Indra asked him to sacrifice his bones to make a weapon which could kill Vrutasur, Dadichi readily agreed without even thinking for a moment.
Dadhichi Jayanti falls on the Ashtami of Bhadrapada Masa every year. It is celebrated with lot of excitement throughout the country. In 2022, Dadichi Jayanthi date is September 4.
Dadichi was well versed in the Narayana Mantra and due to the extensive penance he had done for hundreds of years, his bones had become very strong. Lord Vishnu directed the Gods to approach Dadichi for his bones to be able to kill Vrutasur.

The devas were able to kill the demons with the Vajrayudha made out of Dadichi’s bones, but due the sacrifice, Dadichi could not get moksha in that birth and had to undergo severe penance in his later lives. But he went on to make the sacrifice for the benefit of others.
