We can consider Lord Muruga as our own Kula Devata (Family Deity) and can offer our great respects to him. Ancient staunch Murugan Devotees would regularly visit the six abodes of Lord Muruga, even if they fail to visit the temples of their family deity! Lord Muruga is even worshipped by the tribal people and most of the tribal people’s Kula Devata is Lord Muruga. But at the present period, even the tribal people are fast embracing into other religions, due to the brain wash performed by some of the other religious people.
One honourable politician has examined the birth of Lord Muruga and Lord Vinayaka, and he has questioned that when Lord Muruga is considered to be a god of Tamil, then how come Lord Vinayaka had become the god of Hindi Language, since most of the North Indians worship Lord Vinayaka as their beloved deity! Another respectful politician asks, whether any god with the name of Lord Muruga exists in the world? And if he exists, then what he has done for the welfare of our nation! He should try to realise that only through the grace of Lord Muruga, the entire universe functions properly. Only through his grace, we are all able to breathe properly. Only through his grace, the food crops are being grown properly.
Once when the income tax officials raided the house of the famous Tamil Film producer, late Sri Chinnappa Devar, to their great surprise, they have found only lot of Vibhudi (Sacred Ash) Packets, and lot of Palani Panchamirtham packets. Sri Devar was such a staunch devotee of Lord Muruga, and he has dedicated most of his life towards doing divine service to Lord Muruga. Still Murugan devotees are able to see Lord Muruga, who would appear before them in the form of a small boy, and especially for the lonely people who worship Lord Muruga as their beloved deity, Murugan used to get transformed himself in the small of a young boy, and he would give his support to them. Lord Murugan is fondly worshipped both by the Shaivites and Vaishnavites, since most of the Vaishnavites worship Lord Muruga by considering him as Lord Krishna, since both of the two gods contain similar features. Lord Muruga contains peacock as his vehicle, and likewise, Lord Krishna is very fond of peacock, and that’s why he used to wear peacock feathers on his hair. Lord Krishna’s vehicle is also the divine bird Garuda.
Both Lord Krishna and Muruga appear in the form of child, and their appearance is also interrelated.Lord Krishna was brought up by his foster mother Ma Yashoda, likewise Lord Muruga was also brought up by his foster mothers, the popular Karthigai Star goddesses, also known as “KARTHIGAI PENGAL”.Lord Krishna is very fond of eating Aval, also known as flattened rice, since once he had consumed a handful of Aval from his childhood friend Kuchela. Likewise, Hindus used to offer Aval and Aval made snacks items to Lord Muruga, especially during Karthigai Deepam Festival days.
