Harshnath Temple, Sikar, Rajasthan

Harshnath Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, and it is situated in the Sikar district of Rajasthan. It is believed that this temple was built by a Shiva devotee before 1000 years, with the help of the then king of Rajasthan. Apart from the main shrine, various other shrines are there, and it was in a dilapidated condition.

This temple was destroyed by Aurangazeb during the year 1679, and later a new temple was built nearby the main temple, by a pious Rajasthan king. The temple is located amidst mountains, and it is surrounded with full of natural beauty.Similar to this temple, a temple for Shakti Devi, known as Ma Harsh Devi temple is also situated at Harsh Village, at Rajasthan. This temple was built during the 10th century AD.

Ancient Shaivite saints used to visit this Harshnath temple, and they have worshipped Lord Shiva as “BHOLENATH”, who is known as the god of the gods, and the king of the kings. In the temple inscriptions it was mentioned that during the time of construction of this temple, even poor farmers and soldiers have contributed a portion of their income for building this temple.Lot of north Indian Shiva devotees have visited this temple and they have glorified the Lord by singing various divine songs in Hindi.

During ancient times, this temple is considered as a famous pilgrimage site, and those who visit Kashi Viswanathar Temple, Varanasi, would also come to Rajasthan to visit this nice Harshnath Temple. During ancient times, kings were built food and resting shelters nearby this temple for the welfare of the tired pilgrims. But after the Muslim Kings invasion, these shelters were destroyed by them.
