Aai Mata ji Temple, Jodhpur

Shri Aai Mata ji (1472 – 1561) is an incarnation of Ma Jagadamba, a form of Ma Shakti Devi, and her famous Shri Aai Mata Ji Temple is situated in Jodhpur District, Rajasthan. It is believed that this temple was constructed by a wealthy land lord belonging to a village in Rajasthan. Every year, Shivaratri, Navarathri and Vinayaka Chathurthi festivals, would be grandly celebrated in this temple.

Ma Aai Mata was born and brought up in a village in Rajasthan. She was a very clever student, and she contains lot of Shiva Bhakti from her young age itself. She used to visit Shiva and Shakti Temples along with her mother, and used to perform pujas to the holy deities in her tender hands.

According to ancient legend, Ma Aai Mata has protected the chastity of the women. Once when a group of women while working in the farm lands, were about to be attacked by some miscreants, with bowing hands, they raised the slogan as “HEY MA PLEASE SAVE US”. Immediately an elephant appeared before them, and chased away the miscreants, and also made the women to sit on its back, and it dropped them in a safest place, and then it disappeared. The women who were miraculously saved by the divine mother, immediately conveyed to others about the wonderful miracle happened in their life.

Similar to the above incident, lot of miracles were happened in the life of the devotees of Aai Mataji in Rajasthan. Still now in main cities and in villages of Rajasthan, old people would tell wonderful stories on Aai Mata ji to the children. It is believed that Mataji had dedicated her entire life in worshipping Lord Shiva and Ma Shakti Devi, and spent most of her times in the Shiva Temples. She has some disciples, and through them, she invoked the “SHIVA BHAKTI” in the minds of the people. She also gave divine lectures on the life history of 63 Nayanmars and Shiva Puran to the people in a simple manner.

During her period, those who have lost their parents at their young age, have considered Mataji as their own mother and father, and got the motherly affection from her.
