Garuda Seva is an auspicious Seva which is performed in the Vishnu temples. In Tirumala, Garudu Seva is performed during Brahmotsavam Festival days. As per ancient legend, when Lord Srinivasa, who resides in Tirumala, wanted to dwell in the Seven Hills, and, as per his orders, Lord Garuda through his divine powers, had brought the seven holy hills from the Vaikunta and placed it in the Tirumala.
The Utsava idol of Lord Venkateshwara who is also called as Malayappa Swamy would be kept in the golden Garuda Vehicle and it would be taken out in a procession within the temple premises. The divine beauty of Lord Garuda and Lord Venkateshwara cannot be described in words. Those who witness the incidents directly at the temple only could describe it in detail.
The Garuda Seva can be seen in the TTD Bhakti Channel during the annual Brahmotsavams festival days. The deity of Lord Venkateshwara would be adorned with costly jewels and he would glitter like the sun. The deity would be dressed in beautiful costumes and his legs would be fondly held by Lord Garuda on his two hands. The body of the deity would be placed in the shoulders of Lord Garuda, and he would pleasingly serve his master, Lord Tirupati Balaji.
This type of Seva is being performed throughout India in most of the Vishnu Temples during the Brahmotsavam days. In Kanchipuram Varadaraja Perumal Temple and in Thenangur Pandurangan Temple, Garuda Seva is grandly celebrated similar to Tirumala.
