Eraiyur Thagam Theerthapureeswarar Temple… Arulmigu Eraiyur Thagam Theerthapureeswarar Temple is located in Iraiyur (Erayur) which is the present name of the old village, Thirumaranpadi. Iraiyur is as considered God’s Village, since, (irai=god, oor=village). It is located around 20 kms southwest of Vridhachalam. Buses are available. Shri Annapurni sametha Shri Dhagam Theerthapureeswarar temple is kept open from 6.30 to 11 am and from 4.30 to 8.30 pm. The contact telephone number is 094439 13912. The temple plant is Jackfruit tree (Pala maram).
This is an ancient temple which was once visited by Thirugnana Sambandar and his disciples. After visiting various holy temples, when they reached this place, the child was very tired and others in the group also wanted to take rest for some time. Sambandar is believed to be an aspect of Lord Murugan and hence he was the loving child of Mother Parvathi and Lord Shiva. After reaching this place, Sambandar felt thirst, and hence the Lord created a pond using his trident and everyone’s thirst was quenched. As the Lord satisfied their thirst, He came to be called Dhaagam Theerthapureeswarar (Dhaagam=thirst, theertha= satisfied) and the Mother Annapurni, the Goddess of food.
In the main shrine, Lord is present in the Lingam form. Devi faces South in a separate shrine. The other deities like Nardhana Ganapathy, Dakshinamurthy, Arathurai Nathar, Lingothbhavar, Perumal, Vinayakar, Murugan with His consorts, Gajalakshmi, Durga, Saneeswaran, Navagrahams, Sambadar etc are in shrines. Bhairava worship is very popular in this temple especially on the Ashtami of the waning fortnight (Theipirai).
It is believed that celestials like Agni, Kubera, sky god (Akash Raj), Varuna, Yama and Vayu Dev visit this temple on every Pournami Day, and hence singing songs in praise of them is considered to be a good act.

I always want to sing about the glory of Lord Vayu Bhagavan, whose smile is very precious for me, and he is adorned with flowers and flower garlands.
I salute Lord Vayu who took birth as Lord Hanuman, who had showed great interest in searching for Ma Sita and who had attained a lot by chanting the holy Vishnu Nama. I pray to Lord Vayu Bhagavan,
Who contains great strength like that of mountains, and who does even difficult tasks very easily.
I pray to the aspect of Lord Vishnu who looks very pretty for his devotees, and who looks in a fierce form for his enemies.
