13 January 2021 is Bhogi (Bhogi Pongal), the first day of Pongal or Makara Sankranthi festival. It is widely celebrated in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka.
It falls a day prior to Sankranthi or Makara Sankramana festival. As it marks the last day of Dhanurmasam or Margali masam, Andal Kalyanam or Sri Godadevi Kalyanam is also celebrated on this day by Vaishnava sect of people.
Showering Bhogi Pandlu (Bhogi Pallu), combination of rice, berry fruits, sugarcane pieces, other food items, is an important ritual performed to get the children out from the Nara drishti.
