Adyar Cancer Institute… Cancer is the most dangerous disease in the world. There are various types of cancer which shakes the entire world. Though lot of research activity takes place to control the disease, still some people dies out of cancer, and most of them are poor!
In order to take care of the cancer patients, and in order to provide them proper medical facilities, The Cancer Institute (WIA – Women’s Indian Association), also known as the Adyar Cancer Institute, was started and it is a non-profit cancer treatment and research centre based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The Cancer Institute (WIA) was established in the year 1952 under the leadership of Muthulakshmi Reddy. In 1974, the institute became the Regional Cancer Centre and declared a “Centre of Excellence” by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and they are the pioneers in cancer care from prevention to palliation, offering ethical and state-of-the-art multi-modality treatment.
Cancer Institute (WIA) is the first medical school in India to offer degrees in various sub-specialities of oncology recognized by the Medical Council of India. The institute has been conducting MD (Radiotherapy), DM (Medical Oncology), MCh (Surgical Oncology) and other Diploma and Fellowship programmes, affiliated to the MGR Medical University. The institute is also recognised by both the University of Madras and Anna University for research leading to MPhil and PhD degrees in the areas of medical physics, psycho-oncology and molecular oncology.
They are the pioneers in cancer care from prevention to palliation, offering ethical and state-of-the -art multi-modality treatment. The care is free or heavily subsidised or paid for, as needed. We assure our patients the best possible treatment, creating trust and hope.
When we are willing to donate even several lakhs of money to some ‘not so important luxurious activities’, why can’t we donate some portion of our income to this excellent “ADYAR CANCER INSTITUTE”?
