Veerakudi Murugan Temple | Veera Theera Murugayyanar Temple

Veerakudi Murugan Temple, Sri Veera Theera Murugayyanar Temple is located in Veerakudi, near Narikudi, Virudhunagar district. The chief deity present in this temple is Valli Deivanai Udanurai Murugayya, and he can be seen seated on a snake. Since this temple is situated on the banks of the Kanmai River, it is called Muruga on the banks of the river.

As per legend, once there was a woman who hailed from Veerakudi who used to take milk to the market. While she was walking along the bank, she tripped over a bulrush and spilled milk. She thought it was an accident, but it kept happening. So, seeing her business ruined, she took an axe and cut the bulrush in anger. She ran into the village, afraid of the blood that would flow from it. She came to the place with the help of the people there, and an elder in the group asked her to dig there and find a Murugan idol. They built a temple to worship it properly.

The place where the blood came from the Vallik vine is called Veerathidal. The soil there is seen to be blood-colored. The temple is built facing east. Opposite the gate is the peacock hall and numerous shrines.

Shrines of Nondi Sonai, Ariya Swamy, Karuppanna Swamy, Selva Vinayagar, Sangili Karuppanna Swamy, Marudhu Pandiyar, Pathra Kali Amman, Adi Poosari, Periya Karuppanna, Irulappa Swamy, Rakachi Amman, Irulayi Amman, Pechiyamman, Lada Sannasi, Agni Veerabhadra Swamy, Muthukaruppa Swamy, Perumal, Mahalakshmi, and Arasamara Vinayagar are also situated in the temple.

People are supposed to worship Lord Muruga at this difficult Kali Yuga, since Lord Muruga is declared to be the true god of Kali Yuga. In the first Krita Yuga, Lord Brahma is considered as the supreme deity, since he has created so many things in the universe. In the second Treta yuga, Lord Vishnu is considered as the supreme deity, due to his holy Rama Avatar. In the third Dwapara Yuga, Lord Krishna is considered as the supreme god, and instead of considering him as an avatar of Lord Vishnu, people have considered him as a separate independent god. In this fourth Kali Yuga, Lord Muruga also called as Subramanya is considered as the powerful god of Hinduism. And as per the Kaumara Sect, Lord Muruga had born from the third eye spark of Lord Shiva, only after Shiva meditates on him. Hence Lord Muruga has to be worshipped as a special independent god in this Kali Yuga, those who sincerely worships him, need not worry about the evil effects of Kali Purusha.
