The Divine Origin Story
According to sacred regional history, the ancestors of the Maheshwari community belonged to a royal Kshatriya (warrior) lineage. Due to a severe curse from a group of sages whose peaceful rituals were disrupted, the king and his warriors were turned to stone.
On the day of Jyeshtha Shukla Navami, moved by the deep prayers and devotion of the wives of the stone-turned warriors, Goddess Parvati pleaded with Lord Shiva to intervene. Lord Shiva revived them, freeing them from the curse. He then guided them to leave behind their weapons, embrace a peaceful life centered around trade, commerce, and philanthropy, and named the community Maheshwari after himself.
