Uddanda Ganapati

Uddanda Ganapati is the twenty fourth of the 32 forms of Lord Ganapati. Lord Ganesha is one of the most popular Hindu God worshipped in India and is believed to be the remover of all obstacles in the lives of his devotees.

In this form, the Lord is depicted as having twelve arms. He holds the single tusk, the club, the nocturnal lotus, the noose, the paddy ear, the elephant goad, kamandala, sugar cane bow, conch and pomegranate in his hands. His trunk is placed at the top of Shakti’s breast. The goddess Shakti is shown sitting on his left thigh.

Uddanda Ganapati Mantra and its translation:

kalharambuja  bijapuraka gadadamtekshucapam sumam

bibhrano manikumbhashali kalashau pasham srunim cabjakam

gauramgya ruciraravimda karaya devya samalimgita

shshonamgashshubhamatanotu bhajata muddamdavigneshvarah

With his Shakti seated on his left thigh, He has twelve arms. He is red in colour. His hands hold the single tusk, the club, the nocturnal lotus, the noose, the paddy ear, the elephant goad, the washing pot (kamandalu), the sugar-cane bow, the disc, the daylight lotus, the conch and the pomegranate. His trunk is placed on the top of the goddesse’s breast or, sometimes, maintains a jewels pot (manikumbha).

There are no temples dedicated for this form of Ganapati. However, the temples in Chamarajanagar and Nanjangud has all the 32 forms of Ganesha sculptures. It is believed that worshipping the Lord in this form will help the devotee to become free from all bondings and chains in this world.
