Swamy dhotis are very popular among the Ayyappa devotees and Murugan Devotees. Those who wish to participate in the Sabarimala Yatra, used to wear saffron, black or blue colour dhotis, since these colours are favourite to Swamy Ayyappa. Likewise, Saneeswara devotees used to wear black colour dhotis whenever they visit the Saneeswara temples. Devotees those who take Kavadi for Lord Muruga at the Palani Hills Temple, would wear yellow colour Dhotis. Swami Dhotis are available in large numbers in big as well as in small textile shops.
The great Sri Ramalinga Vallalar used to wear only white coloured clothes, since his soul is very pure like the white colour. But nowadays the system of wearing dhotis is reduced, since most of the people prefer to wear either a lungi or shorts, since they feel that it is more comfortable for them. But Dhoti is an ancient dress of Hindus, and it must be surely wear by the Hindus, in order to follow their age old customs and traditions. We can also see the pictures of the deities wearing Dhotis only. We cannot find either Lord Muruga or Lord Ayyappa wearing a lungi or any other costumes, since even the deity prefers to wearonly our traditional dress Dhoti.
By wearing the Dhoti, our appearance would be good, and it is a simple dress also. Instead of wearing ordinary Dhotis, we can always make the practice of wearing Swami Dhotis, which would be mostly in yellow, blue, black and white, and before buying the dhoti, we must see, whether the image of the deities are printed on those dhoti. We could control our bad habits like lust and anger, by wearing the Swami Dhotis, and we could also get great spiritual pleasure, peace of mind and also we could get great relief from our stress and tensions. During Hindu marriage ceremonies, at the time of marriage, the bridegroom would wear only a dhoti, and in some popular temples, male devotees are allowed to visit inside the temples, only if he wore a dhoti.
