Sati Anasuya Jayanti is the birth anniversary of Anasuya, the wide of Atri rishi. In 2026, Sati Anasuya Jayanti date is April 6.
It falls on Chaturthi in Krishna Paksha of Vaishakh Month in North Indian Hindi calendar and in Chaitra Month as per Amavasyant panchangas.
As Anasuya was very much devoted to her husband, she is considered as the greatest Pativrata in Hinduism and Hindu religious history.
Anasuya was the daughter of sage Kardama and Devahuti. Sage Kapila (Kapila Maharshi) was her brother and Guru.
Sati Anasuya was the mother of Lord Dattatreya (Rishi Avatar of Hindu Trinity: Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva), sage Durvasa and Chandra Deva (Moon God).
Sati Anasuya is one of the most revered women in Hindu mythology, known as the ideal example of pativrata dharma (absolute devotion and purity toward her husband). She was the wife of the great sage Atri and the mother of the divine sage Dattatreya.
Who Was Sati Anasuya?
-

Famous Story of the Trimurti Test
The wives of the Trimurti—

Brahma,
-
Vishnu, and
-
Shiva
heard about Anasuya’s unparalleled virtue and wanted to test it.
The three gods came to her hermitage disguised as sages and asked for alms on the condition that she serve them food without wearing clothes.
This was meant to create a dharma dilemma:
-
If she refused → she would fail in hospitality to guests.
-
If she accepted → it would violate her chastity.
Using her spiritual power, Anasuya transformed the three gods into babies and then fed them as a mother. In this way she maintained both hospitality and purity.
Later, the gods’ wives prayed for forgiveness, and Anasuya restored them to their original forms.
