Rigveda Upakarma 2021 (Avani Avittam)

Rigveda Upakarma 2021 (Avani Avittam) is an auspicious for those who follow Rigveda. In 2021, Rigveda Upakarma date is – 21 August.

There is not much confusion with the date of Rigveda Upakarma 2021, as almost all calendars mentioned it as 21 August. Hindupad suggests the devotees to follow the suggestion of local pundits / local panchangams.

Rig Veda Upaakarma or Rig Veda Avani Avittam is followed by Rig Vedi Brahmins inTamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka.

Rigveda is generally observed on Shravana Nakshatra day in Shravan Month.

Upakarma  consists of two parts. Upakarma (action Redemption) and Uthsarjana (learning of Vedas). These help the already learnt Vedic chants shine with great vigor. Any actions done with such strengthened Vedic chants , would give good and better results. Due to our using Vedic chants for various purposes as well as our not being in a position to follow all the rules, make such chanting of Vedas very weak. So it is necessary to do Upakarma and Uthsarjana every year.

Here the detailed procedure for Rigveda Upakarma is given along with Mantras, Slokas, Vidhanam, etc..

I am a mere layman and admittedly no pandit in these matters, but, I believe/understand Rig Vedis (I am one) are exempted from the ‘Kamo Karshet Japam’
