About Rangari Badak chawl’s Ladka Lambodar Ganpati
Rangari Badak chawl has become famous not only in Mumbai but also in Maharashtra through its Ganesh Sarvajanik Mandal and has spread widely. Sculptor Mr Ram Sarang’s decoration and designs on stories like MACHINDRA AAYA, RAMAYAN, MAHABHARAT, TIRUPATHI BALAJI, VITHU MAJHA LEKULA and different Saint’s worship to god; compelled people to stand in long queues to have a view of such great creations. Even today in Konkan and Western Maharashtra, we get to see people celebrating Ganesh Utsav in the same manner to our Rangari Badak Chawl’s celebrations.
Rangari Badak Chawl has in total 16 chawls of which Badak Chawl starts from No 1-10 and Rangari Chawl from No 1-6 comprising of mixed group of people belonging to different religions, castes, and creed.
Many mill-workers were involved in the struggle for India’s freedom and to end the British rule along with leaders like Lokmanya Tilak, Agarkar, Mahatma Phule and Mahatma Gandhi. Tilak transformed household worshipping of Ganesha into Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav and he also made Shiva Jayanti as a social festival.Tilak recognized the wide appeal of the deity Ganesh as “the god for everybody”, and popularized Ganesh Chaturthi as a national festival in order to generate nationalistic devotion among people in Maharashtra against the British colonial rule.
In 1938 Rangari Badak Chawl was established by Rashtriya Mitra Mandal to celebrate Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav. The Mandal’s very first Idol was placed in its office. The entrance gate of India United Mill No.4 passed through Rangari Badak Chawl and it was the main way for transporting the raw materials in and out of the mill which was an obstacle for the mandal. Later in 1940,the Mill agreed to permanently close this entrance and it was decided to place the ganesh idol in the premises of Hanuman Mandir.
The Ideals of Late Shri Paranjpe Master and Late Shri Shantaram Mayekar is shared with our members even today by our colleague Shri. Yashwant (Anna) More. From where And how Shri Paranjpe master came nobody knows but in 1940 responding to Lokmanya Tilak’s idea Paranjpe Master thought of establishing Rashtriya Mitra Mandal and celebrated the mandals first Ganeshutsav in a small room along with the support of Late Shri Chibde Master, Late Shri Baburav Missal, Late Shri Shantaram Mayekar and Yashwant More.
