Purattasi Mahatmyam | Significance of Purattasi Month

Purattasi, is an important month for the Vishnu devotees, and it falls between September -October. According to legend, it is believed that Lord Venkateswara had taken avatar on the earth during this month.

Hindu Non-vegetarian lovers would avoid meat during the month of Purattasi, and if we see this from the spiritual point of view, this month belonged to Lord Vishnu, as well as his devotee Lord Budhan, the god of Wednesday, who is a lover of vegetarian food.

And if we see this from the scientific point of view, during the month of Purattasi, rainy season starts in Southern parts of India, and due to sudden climatic change, more heat would be there than that of heat caused in summer season.

Purattasi is a sacred month for Tamil people, and during this month, important festivals are there such as Mahalaya Amavasya and Navaratri. Purattasi month is dedicated to Lord Venkateswara, and millions and millions of people would visit Tirumala Tirupati, during Purattasito have the darshan of their beloved god Venkateswara.

Saturdays in Purattasi month are considered as very auspicious. During this month, devotees of Ventateswara would observe fasting on Saturdays, since doing such an act would please Lord Venkateswara.

Lord Shani Bhagavan is a staunch devotee of Lord Venkateswara, and worshipping him on Purattasi Saturdays would fetch his blessings also. Apart from Tirumala, we can worship Lord Vishnu in our nearby temples also. Even if we offer tulasi leaves to him, he would be pleased with us, and would give good fortunes in our life.

Lord Venkateswara is the giver of the boons and the fulfillment of our wishes, by worshipping him on Purattasi month we would get good health, wealth and we can attain all kinds of prosperity in this earth.
