Before moonrise

Take a morning bath, don clean light or white clothing, and resolve to observe the vrat until the first sighting of the crescent after sunset, keeping fruit-only or nirjala per personal capacity and tradition.

Prepare a simple altar with a white cloth, ghee lamp, white flowers, uncooked rice, sandal paste, kheer or white sweets, milk, curd, and sugar; keep a small lota of water with raw milk mixed for arghya.
