Ma Mahadevi is the pious and chaste consort of Lord Veerabhadra, the Divine attendant of Lord Muruga, and their son is Lord Veerakumarar. Ma Mahadevi was created by Ma Shakti Devi, and she is considered to be an aspect of the Divine earrings of Ma Shakti Devi.
In the Devi Mahatmya Purana, the name of Ma Mahadevi was mentioned several times, and in that, she was described as a beautiful goddess, who appears similar to Ma Shakti Devi. When Ma Shakti Devi had taken the fierce form as Ma Durga Devi, in order to fight with Demon Mahishasura, Ma Mahadevi was also joined with her, in the ferocious battle, and helped her by fighting with the Demon’s army.
The name of Ma Mahadevi is also mentioned in the Lalitha Sahasranama Stotra, and from that, we could clearly knew, that she is also one of the forms of Ma Shakti Devi. But at the present world, most of the people are not aware about the significance of this wonderful goddess Ma Mahadevi, since, she is also capable of granting various boons to her devotees, and would relieve the sins and diseases of devotees. Ma Mahadevi gives great courage, happiness, peace of mind, victory, knowledge, spiritual enlightenment and will power.
Ancient Tamil people were worshipped the Divine attendants of Lord Muruga such as Veerabahu, Vajrabahu, Idumban and Ma Mahadevi sincerely, but in course of time, people began to consider the divine attendants of Lord Muruga only as minor deities, and showed lesser respects to them.
People must understand that all the divine attendants of the almighty contain the powers equivalent to the almighty. But generally, they would disclose their powers only during the times of battles, and during rest of the time, they would remain as humble servants of their masters.
In the Shiva Purana, it was mentioned, that Lord Nandikeswarar, the divine attendant of Lord Shiva, had once taken the full divine form, and in that form, even Ma Parvati and Lord Shiva were also present on his body! Likewise the divine bird Garuda also contains enormous powers equivalent to his master Lord Vishnu, and even the Vishnu Bhagavathas like Prahalada and Dhruva are capable of taking the full form(Divine form), but they would never do it, since they always want to willfully serve only as the humble servants of Lord Vishnu.
Hence from today onwards, let us worship Ma Mahadevi also, by considering her as the divine avatar of Ma Shakti Devi, and let us be blessed.
