Veerabhadra Ananda Thandava Murthy

Veerabhadra Ananda Thandava Murthy… During the year 2025, Veerabhadra Jayanti, celebrating the birth of Lord Veerabhadra, who is a fierce form of Lord Shiva, was observed on September 2, 2025. Similar to Lord Shiva, Lord Veerabhadra is also known as Ananda Thandava Moorthy, since he joyfully performs dance with his consort Ma Bhadrakali Amman who is also known as Angalamman, and he is doing this act, in order to remove the ignorance from our mind, and also to give great spiritual pleasure to us.

Lord Veerabhadra also happily dances in order share his happiness among all other living beings in the earth and in the heaven during his birthday (Sri Veerabadhra Jayanti day) and also during Shiva Ratri day. In order to watch his divine dance, the celestial devas and the Rishis like Narada, Tumburu and Bhrigu would assemble in the skies and would happily watches the dance performance of Lord Veerabhadra, since he is none other than Lord Shiva himself!

There is also belief that in the temples of Veerabhadra, he takes the divine form and dances with his consort Ma Bhadrakali during night times, but we can’t witness it. I have also heard from an elderly person, that at my Kula Devi Temple, Erode, Lord Veerabhadra still dances with his consort Ma Angalamman, and if we are a sincere devotee, even we could witness it, provided if we stay there at the Angalamman, Keerakara Veedhi Erode Temple during night times! I am also very much interested to attain great divine pleasure in witnessing their divine dances, sometime during my life time!

Most of us are criticising the god during the times of our difficulties, and we used to even tell, that god doesn’t have any work at all, and just he is simply sleeping from his abode. Even some of the devotees used to tell, that one god is sleeping in the mountain (LORD SHIVA), and another god is sleeping in the milk ocean (LORD VISHNU). But we should always remember that both of these two gods are doing meditative sleep for the sake of universal goodness. Similar to them, the great saints, like Shirdi Saibaba and Guru Raghavendra Swamy are also permanently doing meditation in order add sweetness in the lives of their devotees.
