Madhvacharya Jayanti is the birth anniversary of Sri Madhvacharya, who is also known as Purna Prajna and Ananda Tirtha. In 2026, Madhvacharya Jayanti date is October 21.

Popularly known as the ‘Dvaita Siddhanta Kartha’, who proposed and spread dualism, Dvaita school of Hindu philosophy, Madhvacharya was an important philosopher during Bhakti Movement.

Sri Madhvacharya was born on Vijaya Dasami (Dasara / Dussehra) in 1238 AD at Pajaka near Udupi in today’s Karnataka. It falls on Shukla Paksha Dasami in Ashwin Month as per Kannada Calendar.

Sri Madhvacharya has written tens of books few of them are named: Brahmasutra-bhashya, Sarva-shastrartha-sangraha, Brahmasutra-anuvyakhyana, Brahmasutra-anuvyakhyana-vivarana, Bhagavadgita-bhashya, Bhagavadgita-tatparya-nirnaya, and many more.

Philosophical Significance

Madhvacharya’s teachings promote bhakti towards Vishnu, clarity in scriptural interpretation (commentaries on Brahma Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads), and rejection of monism for dualistic reality. It inspires spiritual strength, protection from illusion, and devotion in South Indian Vaishnava traditions.

Key Rituals

Perform special pujas in Madhva mathas and temples with Vishnu Sahasranama parayana, bhajans, and discourses on his works like Mahabharata Tatparya Nirnaya. Offerings include tulsi, flowers, and naivedya; fasting, meditation, and processions occur, especially at Udupi Krishna Math.
