Shivarathri is the most popular festival in South India. Devotees and pilgrims visit on this auspicious day to popular Shiva temple. Here is the List of popular and ancient Shiva temples that are located in Southern part of India.

In the state of Tamil nadu are located Airavatesvara Temple at Darasuram, in Thanjavur District, Rockfort Ucchi Pillayar Temple, in Tiruchirappalli, Brihadeeswarar Temple, in Thanjavur, Sangameswarar Temple at Bhavani, in Erode district and Arthanareeswara Temple, at Tiruchengode, in Namakkal district.

In the state of Orissa are located the Leaning Temple of Huma, in Sambalpur, Lingaraj Temple, in Bhubaneswar, Kapilash Temple, in Dhenkanal District,  Mukteswar Temple, in Bhubaneswar, Parsurameswar Temple, in Bhubaneswar, Akhandalamani Temple, in Bhadrak, Chandaneswar, in Balasore, Dhabaleswar, in Cuttack and Gupteswar Cave temple, near Jeypore.

In the state of Andhra Pradesh are located Vemulawada, in Karimnagar district, Kapila Theertham, in Chittoor district, Srikalahasti Temple, in Srikalahasti, Kaleshwaram, in Karimnagar district, Keesaragutta, in Ranga Reddy district and Ramappa temple, in Warangal district.
