Kanya Sankranti or Kanya Sankraman is the day when Surya Bhagwan transits to or enters into Kanya rashi (Virgo) from Simha rashi (Leo). In 2014, Kanya Sankraman date is September 17.
Kanya rasi is the sixth among 12 rashis. Hindus perform Sankraman snan (ritual bath), Vishnu pujas and Vishnu Sahasranama stotra parayana during this day.
