Bhadrapad Month (Bhadra Mahina, Bhadrapada Masam), is the 6th month of Hindu calendar followed in North India, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. In 2012, Adhik Bhadrapada month begins on August 2 and ends on August 31 as per North Indian Hindu calendars. Nija Bhadrapad month starts on September 1 and ends on September 30 (In North Indian Hindi calendars).
According to Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu and Kannada Panchangam, Adhik Bhadrapada masa begins on August 18 and ends on September 16. Nija Bhadrapada Month starts on September 16 and ends on October 15.
Bhadra month is also called as Bhadon month as per Nanakshahi Sikh calendar.
Important Festivals in Bhadrapad Month:
In Bhadrapad month as per North Indian calendars, Sri Krishna Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Rushi Panchami, Varaha Jayanti and Anant Chaturdashi are the mainfestivals. And as per the panchangs of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat, the important festivals celebrated during Bhadrapad month are – Vinayaka Chavithi, Rishi Panchami, Vamana Jayanthi and Ananta Chaturdasi.
Bhadrapad Mahina is the second month in Chaturmas, four holy months of Hinduism. Umamaheshwara Vratam is observed on Bhadrapada Purnima in South Indian states. The next month in traditional lunar calendars followed in India is – Ashwin maas or Ashvayuj maas.
