Mata Jogulamba is a form of the Hindu goddess, particularly revered in the Telangana region of India. She is considered one of the 18 Maha Shakti Peethas, sacred shrines dedicated to the goddess Shakti.

The story associated with Jogulamba is as follows:

Origin of Jogulamba:

Long ago, there was a sage named “Yogeeswara.” He was a devout devotee of the goddess Shakti. Yogeeswara lived in a small village in what is now the Telangana region of India. His wife, Jogamba, was equally devoted to the goddess.

The Curse:

One day, Yogeeswara found a deity of the goddess in the forest. Overwhelmed with devotion, he brought the idol home and installed it in his small ashram (hermitage). He began performing intense penance and offering prayers to the goddess.

However, a jealous and evil Tantrik (practitioner of dark magic) in the nearby village grew envious of Yogeeswara’s devotion and the growing popularity of the goddess in the region. In a fit of anger and jealousy, he decided to disrupt Yogeeswara’s worship.

The Tantrik conducted a dark ritual to invoke a demoness named Jogulamba, who had the power to disrupt and destroy anything holy. He directed Jogulamba to destroy the goddess’s idol in Yogeeswara’s ashram.

The Wrath of Jogulamba:

Jogulamba, being a fierce and destructive goddess, appeared before Yogeeswara’s ashram in a fearsome form. She unleashed her anger and devastation, causing a fierce storm and flooding the area.

Terrified, the villagers rushed to Yogeeswara and begged him to pacify Jogulamba. Yogeeswara, realizing that the goddess had been invoked due to his devotion, prayed earnestly to her to control her destructive wrath.

Jogulamba’s Blessing:

Recognizing Yogeeswara’s sincere devotion and his wish to protect the goddess’s idol, Jogulamba relented. She blessed him and withdrew her destructive form, but not before promising to stay in the region in a more peaceful and accessible form.

As a result, Jogulamba remained in the region as a goddess of peace and protection, ensuring the safety and well-being of the devotees who visit her shrine.

Today, the Jogulamba temple in Alampur, Telangana, is one of the most important shrines dedicated to the goddess Jogulamba. Devotees visit this temple to seek her blessings, especially for protection and to overcome troubles and obstacles in their lives. Jogulamba is revered as a powerful and compassionate goddess who protects her devotees from harm.

Story of Rasa Siddha

According to another popular legend there was a great saint in 6th century called Rasa Siddha who had the power to convert base metal into gold and he was considered close to chalukya king Pulakesi II, instrumental in constructing any temples called ‘Nava Brahmas’.

According to the legend, the nine names of Siva are actually the names of medicinal herbs put forth by Rasa Siddha and there are nine temples here. They are the Swarga Brahma Temple Padma Brahma Temple, Vishva Brahma Temple Arka Brahma Temple, Bala Brahma Temple, Garuda Brahma Temple, and Taraka Brahma Temple.

The Siddha Rasarnavam is a tantric work, which states that if upasana is performed as per the prescribed Tantra, then Mercury oozes from the Linga of Bala Brahma, Thighs of Subramanya, Navel of Ganapati, and Mouth of Mother Jogulamba, which can be converted into Gold by using the medicinal herbs.
