Jakkana, Author of ‘Vikramarka Charithramu’

Peram Raju Jakkana is a famous Telugu poet who lived during the 15th century AD. He was born in a pious Telugu Brahmin family in Andhra Pradesh. He served as a poet in the court of the great king Proudha Devarayalu.

His famous work is ‘Vikramarka Charithramu’, which mentions the life history of the great king Sri Vikramaditya, the king of Ujjain, and an ardent devotee of Ma Kali.

Jakkana lived during the period of the great poets, Srinatha and Pothana. His poems are considered as very simple, and was highly appreciated in the court of kings, and he also praised by the common man for his rich contribution in penning divine poems.

Apart from the work of Vikramaditya, he also wrote poems in praise of Lord Shiva and Parvati. He was an ardent devotee of Shiva and Parvati, and used to visit and worship the Shiva temples, and performed puja to the Shiva Lingam. With the wealth received from the kings, he spent a portion of money towards renovating ancient Shiva temples, and also sung several songs in praise of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati.

Jakkana at his later stage of life, had become a great saint, and lead a simple life and performed meditation on Lord Shiva, and attained SALVATION.
