Gangotri Yatra 2013 resumes

Gangotri Yatra 2013 resumes on 24 September 2013, after three months. The yatra had been suspended in the wake of the devastating flash-floods in Uttarakhand.

According to an an official release on Tuesday, Sept 24, after inspecting the area the officials declared the resumption of the yatra.

The road route to the Himalayan shrine in Garhwal is being repaired on a war footing and it will soon be reopened for heavy vehicles also, he said.

The yatra was suspended after the floods ravaged the state on June 16.

Gangotri Yatra

Gangotri Yatra or the pilgrimage tour to Gangotri Temple is one of the four prominent and holy temple tours (Chardham Yatra) as per Hinduism. Usually, Gangotri temple opens on Akshay Tritiya day.

Gangotri temple opening date in 2013 is May 13 as per the official website of Gangotri temple. The pundits in the temple closes Gangotri temple on Diwali after performing some special pujas.

Apart from special pujas on opening date and closing date of the temple several rituals are followed on Janmashtami and Vijaydasami.
