Lord Ganesha
Durva Ganapati Poojan (Durva Ganapati Vrata, Durva Ganesh Chaturthi) is vrata dedicated to Lord Ganapati. In 2025, Durva Ganapati Vrata date is July 28.
It is observed on Chaturthi day of Shukla Paksha (bright half) in Shravan month in Maharashtra, some parts of Karnataka, and Gujarat. ‘Durva’ means a type of grass blades used to worship Lord Ganesha. Durva grass blades have great significance in Hinduism. Lord Ganesh is worshipped with Durva grass blades on this day and special nivedan (Modak) is offered.
It is to note that Shukla Paksha Chaturthi in Bhadrapad Month is celebrated as Ganesh Chaturthi. Durva Ganapati vrat falls exactly a month before Ganesha Chaturthi festival.
Other festivals dedicated to Lord Ganesha are – Sankashti Chaturthi or Sankatahara Chavithi in every month (Krishna Paksha Chaturthi), Ganesh Jayanti or Tilkund Chaturthi or Varad Chaturthi in Magh Month, and Putra Ganapati vratam or Varasiddhi Vinayaka Vratham in Falgun month.
