Ganesh Chaturthi (Vinayaka Chavithi) is the festival of Lord Ganesha. In 2013, Vinayaka Chavithi date is September 9. It is celebrated on Chaturthi or Chavithi during the month of bhaadra or Bhadrapada month (August – September).

This ritual is called as Ganesh Nimajjan or Ganapati Visarjan.

People believe that on Ganesh Chaturthi Festival, Lord Ganesha, son of the diving couple, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, bestow his presence for all his devotees. Ganapati is considered as the Aadideva, who is worshipped before all Gods in every puja and ritual.
Ganesh Chaturhti Festival is widely celebrated in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamilnadu. This festival is also celebrated among the Hindu communities in Nepal and Sri Lanka.
