Dolotsavam is an annual ritual celebrated in Srikurmam Kurmanatha Swamy temple located in Gara mandal of Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh. Dolotsavam 2012 date in Srikurmam temple is 8 March 2012. Srikurmam temple is the only temple in India (in fact in the world) dedicated to Lord Kurma. Sri Kurmanatha (tortoise form of Lord Vishnu) is the second incarnation of Vishnu who helped the Gods and demons in churning the Ocean (Samudra manthan). Dolotsavam is held on Phalguna Pournami, the Full Moon day in Falguna month.
Srikurmam Sri Kurmanatha swamy temple is architecturally unique and it is believed that the bones of the deceased if thrown into the holy tank in the temple (Sweta Pushkarini) get converted into tortoises or Kurmas. Devotees believe that performing rituals like pindam pradaanam would ensure salvation or moksham to the departed souls. Thousands of devotees take holy dip during Dolotsavam day the Sea coast in Srikurmam.
