Sri Dhanasadha

Sri Dhanasada was living by ploughing the crop, which is popularly known as the Velvendar’s nokkum kayi. Though he was not a great scholar of education, he would not waste his time in farming but would be happy to associate with the devotees, listen to their pastime, think of the marriage qualities of the Lord, and listen to the miracles bestowed upon him.

One day, when he went to a meeting of the Haridasas, he saw them worshipping the Saligramam. He wanted to perform the same puja. They waited for the prayers to be completed and expressed their wishes. On the one hand, they are happy. They were happy that they wanted to do such good deeds despite being a farmer. But there was also sympathy for how he could worship as he did not know anything. However, we should not neglect the idea of worship, so they gave us an empty stone like the village of Saligram and asked us to worship it as a god every day.

Even though it was just a stone, Dhanasada began to worship it as a deity. In the morning, he would go far away from the village to graze the cows in search of a place where there was plenty of grass. Then he would bathe in the water there, clean the trunk of a tree, invoke his favourite deity there, pluck and apply all the flowers that were available nearby, and offer the poles that he had brought for himself, and insisted that if you did not eat this dish that God gave to the poor, he would not eat it either.

For the sake of his innocent love, the Lord will make the pot and the pot washed. Dhanasada will eat the rest with great satisfaction. This went on every day.

One day, when he was going to Kazhani to sow seeds, we heard that some Bhagavathars came and told him that Swami, water is not for the devotees, but he is not for the devotees. Now we are not hungry but have come to you.

He knows that there is only a little bajra in the house and that there is no paddy other than seed paddy. So instead of going to the field, he returned home with the seed paddy. He invited the Bhagavathars along with him and told him that the food would be ready before the bath and worship and asked his wife to cook the seeds of paddy and make a feast for the devotee. They did the same. The faithful who had come had eaten and greeted.

When the town heard the news, they were shocked to see him. What is the state of his family? Aren’t there so many rich people in the town? They are obliged to honour the Bhagavathars who have come to the town. Then why did he come forward and do something wonderful! Isn’t there a proper swelling of the finger? They started talking about how he would be able to live by cultivating and living in vain.

Ignoring their accusations and criticisms, Swamiji said to them, I did not eat for the sake of pride. My intention and principle are, that we should give to His servants what God has given us. At the time of their arrival, they had no other object in their possession. I gave the seeds from the land to the devotees. I am happy that I have got such a great fortune. When the Lord is present, he said, I must worry about myself, and went about his work.

What will the Lord do after the devotee imposes the responsibility on himself? As Valluvar had said, the seeds must be sown, and the crops swayed as if the land had sown at the right time. The whole town was amazed to see the green field.

People mocked him and said, ‘Damn, what’s the surprise? The land of the uncultivated is in vain. The yield also seems to be bumper. It seems that the grain of the field will see the paddy that is ploughed. This is the grace of Bhagavata,” they exclaimed.

Dhanasat was also surprised. How can my land yield so much if I don’t do any work! Everything is His mercy. He thought that he could use these paddy paddies to feed him throughout the year.

As he sat looking at the paddy crop, Pachavannan appeared in the middle of the green field. The beautiful form of the conch shell is the story of the wheel and he is seen in the form of a beautiful person. Dhanasada bowed to him and then fell at his feet. The Lord said with great kindness, Vatsa, what boon do you want, so that you do not forget your name. Raising his right hand, the Lord said, “We have given it to you.” The farmer Peruman was born with a thoughtless dedication to his feet.
