Dashain is the 15 day celebration of various forms of Goddess Durga in Nepal. It is the biggest festival of Nepal and people celebrate it with huge enthusiasm among friends and family members.
In 2025, Auspicious Time for Dashain Tika is 2 October 2025. The most auspicious hour for giving and receiving the tika of this year’s Dashain festival is at 11.02 am on October 2, 2025.
Of these 15 days, the tenth day is the most important day of Vijaya Dashami. It was on this day that the Goddess killed the demon Mahishasura and it is celebrated to commemorate the victory of good over evil.
The Nepal Calendar Determination Committee (NCDC), the authorized body of Nepal to decide dates and times for Hindu festivals, has determined 11.02 am (12 October 2024) as the auspicious hour to receive Dashain tika this year.
The auspicious time for immersing statues of goddess Devi is at 10:37 am the same day, according to the Committee.
Although one can offer and receive Tika throughout the day, the auspicious hour for it is determined 11:02 am, said Prof Shree Krishna Adhikari, Chairperson of the Committee.
Tika is a mixture of rice grains, red vermillion and curd, which is put on the forehead as a blessing from goddess Durga on the 10th day of the Dashain festival.
Similarly, the auspicious time for Ghatasthapana, the first day of the Dashain festival, is 11:29 am (3 October).
Ghatasthapana is the auspicious occasion wherein sacred Jamara, newly germinated barley or maize shoots that are put behind the ears or on the head as an auspicious items, are grown.
On the day of Vijaya Dashami, which is celebrated as the Dashain Tika day in Nepal, women prepare a mixture of rice, yogurt and vermillion called the Tika. Elders in the family, put this tika on the forehead of younger relatives along with the jamara collected from the kalasha as blessings.
The elders also give dakshina or gift to the younger ones in the family. This continues for five days starting from the day of Vijaya Dashami during which friends and family members visit each other and exchange gifts and greetings.
