Karkidaka Vavu Bali goes ‘Green’ in Thiruvananthapuram

Karkidaka Vavu to go gree… Thiruvananthapuram’s district administration has declared that green protocol should be followed during Karkidaka Vavu Bali in major centres.

District Collector said here on 29 July 2019, that the green protocol will be effective in Shanghumugham, Aruvikkara, Aruvippuram, Thiruvallam, Varkala and Papanasam.

Paper cup, paper plate, plastic water bottles, thermocol plates, aluminium foil, tetra packs, food items with multi-layer packing, plastic covers and carrybags have been banned in these areas. Stringent action will be taken against those who violate the order.

Traffic regulations will be in place in Shanghumughom and Thiruvallam areas on July 31, considering the rush of devotees for bali offering. Restrictions have been imposed on offering bali and parking vehicles in the barricaded areas near Shanghumughom beach, which were destroyed in sea erosion.

The vehicles from Chakka towards the domestic airport need to take the Eenchakkal-Kallummoodu-Ponnara bridge-Valiyathura route. From the Chakka side to Shanghumugham, only vehicles carrying devotees offering bali will be allowed. These vehicles have to be parked in the earmarked parking areas. Parking on either side of the road should be avoided.

At Shanghumukhom, the parking areas are at the tsunami park, Motor Vehicle Department’s ground, Sulaiman street near the old domestic airport, Shanghumugham Devi temple ground and one side of the Shanghumukhom-Vettukad road. In Thiruvallam, the parking areas are BNV School parking ground, service road of Thiruvallam- Vazhamuttam bypass road and service road of Kumarichantha-Thiruvallam bypass road.

Heavy vehicles from Vizhinjam side should take a deviation from Mukkola and head towards Balaramapuram, from July 30 midnight till the end of bali offering.
