Brahmotsavams in Sri Kurmam Sri Kurmanadha Temple

Brahmotsavams or Brahmotsavalu is the biggest temple festival of Sri Kurmam Sri Kurmanadha Swamy Temple, located in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh. The 9-day Brahmotsavams in 2012 will be held from April 28 to May 6, 2012. Vaisakha Pournami, the Full Moon in Vaisakha masam, in Telugu calendar is celebrated as Kurma Jayanti and Sri Kurmanadha Swamy Kalyanotsavam.

Sri Kurmanatha swamivari Kalyanam, the celestial wedding ceremony of the tortoise incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is celebrated on May 6, 2012 with utmost gaiety in Srikurmam temple.

Sri Kurmam temple is the most sacred and ancient shrine is the only temple in the world where Lord Vishnu is worshipped in the form of tortoise incarnation (Kurva Avatara). Prominent references about this shrine are available in several Puranas like the Kurma Purana, the Vishnu Purana, the Padma Purana, and the Brahmaanda Purana.
