Basara Temple got hit by a thunderbolt and the entrance got destroyed on 18 May 2016. In the evening when a thunderbolt hit the temple’s Mukhadwaram of the Basara Gnana Saraswati Temple in Adilabad district of Telangana, it got destroyed and became two parts.
Basara Saraswati Temple is one of the two famous Saraswati temples in India, the other being in Jammu & Kashmir. Saraswati is the Hindu Goddess of knowledge and learning. Children are brought to the temple for the learning ceremony called as Akshara abyasam.
The origin and the history or the legend of Saraswati Temple, Basar, dates back to the period of Sage Veda Vyasa who performed penance at the river banks of Godavari.
