The 971st Avatarotsavam of the great Sri Vaishnava Saint Sri Anantalwar will be observed in Tirumala on 23 February 2025. It is an ancient tradition to observe the Avatarotsavam of Sri Anantalwar in the Purusaivari Tota under the aegis of Alwar Divya Prabandha Project of TTD which begins on that day from 9.30am onwards.
On this occasion, the successors of Sri Anantalwar settled all over the country gather together in Purasaivari Tota (Anantalwar Tota) in Tirumala to perform special pujas, recitation of Divya Prabandha Pasurams and spiritual programs.
As per sacred texts, Anantalwar was believed to be the incarnation of Sri Adisesha, the holy serpent king and pioneered Pushpa Kainkaryam in Tirumala.
This is a special occasion where descendants of Anantalwar from across the country gather at the Purusaivarithota and perform Divya Prabanda Pasura Parayanam and render Pravachanams.
Legends say that the karpoora patch on the chin of mula Virat idol of Sri Venkateswara Swamy was put by Anantalwar after he accidentally hit on a boy in a Tirumala garden who turned out to be the Lord Himself. Even today karpoora is applied to the chin of Lord and Prabanda Parayanam is rendered regularly.
The Mahadwaram of Srivari temple also showcases the crowbar with which Anantawar has hit the Lord who appeared in a boy’s guise.

శ్రీవైష్ణవ భక్తుడు, ఆళ్వారులలో ప్రముఖుడైన శ్రీ అనంతాళ్వారు 971వ అవతారోత్సవాన్ని ఫిబ్రవరి 23వ తేదీన తిరుమలలోని శ్రీవారి ఆలయానికి నైరుతి దిశగా ఉన్న పురుశైవారి తోటలో టీటీడీ ఘనంగా నిర్వహించనుంది.
ఈ సందర్భంగా ఆళ్వార్ దివ్యప్రబంధ ప్రాజెక్టు ఆధ్వర్యంలో అనంతాళ్వార్ బోధనలు, రచనలపై సదస్సు నిర్వహిస్తారు. ఉదయం 9.30 గంటలకు ఈ కార్యక్రమం జరుగనుంది.
సాధారణంగా అనంతళ్వారు జననం చైత్రమాసంలో తమిళనాడులో సంభవించినా తిరుమలలో ఆయన కాలుమోపిన దినాన్ని అవతారోత్సవంగా వారి వంశీకులు పరిగణిస్తున్నారు.
ఈ సందర్భంగా దేశవ్యాప్తంగా స్థిరపడిన అనంతాళ్వారు వంశీయులు తిరుమలలోని పురశైవారి తోటలో (అనంతాళ్వారు తోట) కలసి ప్రత్యేక పూజలు, దివ్యప్రబంధ పాశుర పారాయణం, ఆధ్యాత్మిక ప్రవచన కార్యక్రమాలు నిర్వహిస్తారు.
పురాణాల ప్రకారం శ్రీ అనంతాళ్వారు సాక్షాత్తు ఆదిశేషుని రూపంగా మరో శ్రీవైష్ణవ భక్తాగ్రేశ్వరుడు శ్రీరామానుజాచార్యులతో కలిసి అవిర్భవించినట్లు తెలుస్తోంది. అంతేకాకుండా రామానుజాచార్యుని అభిమతానుసారమే శిష్యుడైన అనంతాళ్వారు తిరుమలకు వేంచేసి స్వామివారి పుష్ప కైంకర్యానికి శ్రీకారం చుట్టినట్లు పురాణ కథనాలు ఉన్నాయి.
అందులో భాగంగానే ఒకనాడు అనంతాళ్వారు నిండు గర్భిణియైన తన భార్యతో కలిసి స్వామివారి ఆలయం చెంత ఒక పూలతోటను ఏర్పాటు చేస్తుండగా బాలుని రూపంలో సాక్షాత్తు వేంకటేశ్వరస్వామి ప్రత్యక్షమయ్యాడు. తాను కాదన్నా తన భార్యకు పనులలో చేదోడువాదోడుగా ఉద్యానవన నిర్మాణంలో సహకరించాడన్న కోపంతో అనంతాళ్వారు ఆ బాలునిపై తన చేతిలో ఉన్న గునపాన్ని విసిరాడు. మరునాడు స్వామివారి మూలవిరాట్టు చుబుకం నుండి రక్తస్రావం చూసి తాను చేసిన పొరపాటుకు పశ్చాత్తాపం చెందాడు. వెంటనే స్వామివారి గాయానికి కర్పూరపు ముద్దను అంటించి తన అపారభక్తిని చాటుకున్నాడు. తద్వారా శ్రీవేంకటేశ్వరస్వామివారి కృపకు పాత్రుడయ్యాడు.
నేటికీ స్వామివారి చుబుకానికి కర్పూరాన్ని అంటించడం అనంతాళ్వారు దివ్యగాథను స్ఫురింపచేస్తుంది. అదే విధంగా నేటికీ మహాద్వారం చెంత అనంతాళ్వారు స్వామివారిపై విసిరిన గునపం కూడా భక్తులకు దర్శనమిస్తోంది.
