Adhisaya Sastha Temple, Kanyakumari

Sri Adhisaya Sastha temple is located in Kanyakumari, in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is about 500 years old as per records of the region. The presiding deity is Sastha. The holy tree is Vilwa and the holy water is Yaga Gunda Theertham.

The important festivals celebrated in grand manner in this temple are Panguni Uthiram in March-April then on the 7th and 8th day a grand annual festival is celebrated for Sastha later finally the Lord comes in procession on Horse vahan.

Lord Sastha is usually seen by the devotees with His feet pressed on the ground floor in a yoga style as per the tradition. In this particular temple, He is on a platform (peetam) with the left toe pressed on the floor and His right leg bent. He is wearing a necklace, holds a club on the right hand and the holy thread on the chest. On the other hand, His curled hair is well maintained and dressed. Lord Sastha in such an attractive and beautiful design is not anywhere in the rest of India.

Other important deities in this temple are Bhoodattar, Madan Thambiran, Eenan and Vanniar. The nearby temple is the popular Sthanumalayan temple in Sussendram, Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. Devotees from the nook and corner of Coimbatore visit this temple for recovery of things stolen from them, relief from adverse planetary effects, early wedding and pray for child boon.

Special rituals and purnima pujas are performed in this temple as per the ancient practices.
