Mandaikadu Bhagavathy Amman Temple is a temple where Devi Parvathi is the prime deity. This temple is also called as ‘Women’s Sabarimala’. It is located near Colachel in the Western coast of Kanniyakumari District, Tamil Nadu. This is one among the most renowned and most important Hindu temples in Kanniyakumari district.
The idol of Devi here is unique, huge and is earthy. There are three idols of Amman in the Sanctum Santorum. The worship is also unique as every woman who visits temple should make Pongala and offer to Bhagavathy Amman. Cane Sugar Payasam is Devi’s favourite. Mandaikadu Mandaiappam is also the major food offered to Amman.
The unique aspect of the temple is that the devotees can see Bhagavathy Amman even from the road itself. During the festivals hundreds of shops are accommodated all through the streets. Thousands of devotee’s worship Bhagavathy Amman each day.
The Maha Kumbabhishekam is scheduled to take place at the Mandaikadu Bhagavathy Amman Temple on May 11, 2025.
The Mandaikadu Bhagavathy Amman Temple, known as the Sabarimala of women, is visited by a large number of devotees not only from the local community but also from Kerala. The 10-day Kodai festival held in the month of Masi is very famous at this temple.
Currently, the Maha Kumbabhishekam festival is scheduled to be held in this temple on May 11,2025. In view of this, the work of constructing the yagya roads for this is in full swing. Regarding this, Manickam from Mandaikkadu area said, “Mandaikkadu Bhagavathy Amman Temple, which is a famous temple in India, will be visited by devotees not only from Tamil Nadu but also from Kerala in large numbers.
“A large number of tourists also visits this temple. The Maha Kumbabhishekam festival will be held at the Mandaikadu Bhagavathy Amman Temple on May 11th. The work of constructing the Yagashala for this is in full swing. On the day of Kumbabhishekam, there will be a huge crowd of devotees not only from the locals but also from outside the city,” he said.
