Sri Katyayani Devi is the 4th day Alankarams in Vijayawada Dasara Navaratri 2025, 25 September. During Dasara Sharan Navaratri of Kanakadurga Temple, each day one of the forms of Goddess Durga is worshipped.
On fourth day this year, Kanakadurga Mata is decorated in the form of Sri Katyayani Devi and worshipped. This Chaturthi Navratri falls on Ashwayuja Shukla Paksha Chavithi tithi.
Katyayani Mata is one of the Nine Navadurga Forms worshipped in Navaratri Navadurga Sampradayam, Due to Tithi Vriddhi and Shunya Tithi, this year Kanakadurga is worshipped as Katyayani on fourth day.
The story of origin of Ma Katyayani goes like…. The demon King Mahishasura after intense penance (Tapas) of years received indomitable powers from Lord Shiva. Power intoxicated him and with great arrogance he started disturbing the Rishis in their holy rituals and attacking the Gods. His impudence led him to defeat Indra and conquer his capital Amaravathi. Fearing his might and insolence, the Rishis and Gods approached Brahmma, Rudra and Lord Narayana and narrated their predicament.
