Shri Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal | Jagadguru of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham… Jagadguru Sri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal is the present pontiff of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, Kanchipuram. He became the senior most Pontiff of the Kanchi Mutt after his Guru Jayendra Saraswati, had attained Mahasamadhi on February 2018. His birth name was Sankara Narayanan.

Sri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswathi was born in 1969 in Periyapalayam village near Arani in Tiruvallur. After finishing his formal schooling in Periyapalayam, he has studied Vedas under his father, Sri Krishnamurthy Sastri, who was an eminent and efficient Vedic scholar and teacher. He joined the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham when he was just 13, and there he was named as Sri Shankara Vijayendra Sarasvati Swamigal, who has toured many parts of the country, and he had given divine discourses from Shastras, Puranas and Vedas.

Devotees from all parts of India were impressed by the way of his teachings and worshipped him, and his holy speeches were aimed at invoking spirituality among the common people. He was the key person in spreading the Sanatana dharma throughout the country, and similar to his predecessors, he actively participates in doing lot of charitable activities at the Kanchipuram Mutt.

He was a great and a noble saint, who has lived a pious life by worshipping Lord Shiva and Goddess Kamakshi Amman. Saints are the real saviours in this dreaded Kaliyuga, and they quench the spiritual thirst of the people, through their noble activities. Most of the people think that only by the way of reading the great epics like Ramayana, Mahabharata and Bhagavatham, they would get the blessings of the god. But, apart from reading these divine texts, we must also read the life history of the saints like Guru Raghavendra and Vijayendra Saraswati Swamigal, since, these divine saints have lighted lamps and still they are lighting lamps on the lives of their devotees.
