Veera Hanuman (Veera Anjaneya Swamy)

Veera Anjaneya Swamy (Veera Hanuman) is the second incarnation of Hanuman’s Navavatara (9 forms). This form holds Gadha (mace) with an expression of ready-to-battle.

This Hanuman Avatara appears with Abhaya Mudra, but holds the mace pointing upwards and always in the position to punish the evil. Since this form expresses the strength and valor of Hanuman, it is referred to as Veera Hanuman.

Nowadays, the Hanuman flying with holding Sanjeeva Parvata in one hand and mace in one hand is also considering as Veera Hanuman.

There is a big difference in Prasanna Anjaneya Swamy And Veera Anjaneya Swamy. Both forms look similar but the right hand of these avatarams is quite different in appearance and nature. In Prasanna Anjaneya Swamy Avatara, the right hand holds the mace pointing downwards with a pleasant nature. But in Veera Hanuman form, the right hand holds the mace stiffly pointing upwards and always alert to face any situation like a warrior.

The story of Veera Hanuman is explained as a part of ‘Mainda Charitra’ in the 35th chapter of Parashara Samhita.
