The concept of unity in diversity is the theme of Pune’s Shivram Tarun Mandal near Dawoodi Bohra Masjid in Camp epitomizes for the last four years. It is to be noted that this particular mandal’s active members belong to various religious sect such as Dawoodi Bohra, Muslim, Hindu and Christian. Its mandal’s vice-president and treasurer is a Muslim named Asif Shaikh.
Its other members are Mandal president Dhashatrat Mahadik, vice-president Asif Shaikh, treasurer Rashid Shaikh and key members Ramesh Vichare, Arif Kachwala, Sheldon Fernandez, Nilesh Sharma, Milind Kamble, Sunil More, Durgesh Yadav and Vijay Suryawanshi.
While speaking to the media, Mahadik said, “Our mandal has been an avid believer in the concept of unity in diversity ever since it was formed. We use eco-friendly Ganesh idols and for 10 days, we provide food and education to the needy.”
On the other hand, Asif Shaikh said, “I have been attached to the mandal for 15 years. I believe in Lord Ganesha as much as I worship Allah. Moreover, a member Fernandez said, “My preparations begin days ahead of the festival as I go to sweet shops hunting for recipes of sweets or search them online. Every year, I compile the recipes and then either I or some other member prepares a new delicacy every day for prasad.”
It is to be highly noted that these type of Mandal are there in every nook and corner of major cities and town which spread the message of Unity in diversity. These mandals are spreading the large message of peace and harmony across the nation.
