Two Moons on 27 August 2014? Mars & Moon to appear in same size?
On 27th August 2014 there will be two moons. The whole world is waiting for it. On this day Mars will be very bright and like moon everyone can see it with naked eyes. This day it will be 34.65 M Miles away from earth. On this day do not forget to see this at 12.30 night. Because you will see two moons in the sky. This event will happen again in the year 2287. Please share this with all. Because those who are living now cannot see it second time in the year 2287..” This is almost the same message that first surfaced back in 2003 when Mars was closest to the Earth. Only the date is changed for effect……
SEE MARS AS LARGE AS THE FULL MOON ON 27TH AUGUST 2014. Should be spectacular! Truly a once in a lifetime experience!
I saw a version of this a few years back that included a powerpoint presentation, suggesting that Mars and Earth’s moon will appear as a “double moon” in late August.
It sounds amazing! Can it possibly be true?
No. It can’t. The email and photo are perpetuating a hoax that rears its crazy head every summer. The hoax has circulated every summer since 2003. Eleven years running! That’s a long time for a hoax to run, in our world of information.
Mars can never appear as large as a full moon as seen from Earth. The moon will not be full on August 27, 2014 (you might spot it briefly as a thin crescent in the west after sunset, though). And Mars will not be at its brightest or closest in August of 2014, or at any time in 2014. In 2014, Mars is closest to Earth on April 8, but it won’t be as close this year as in some years.
THIS IS JUST A MESSAGE BEING CIRCULATED IN SOCIAL MEDIA SITES LIKE FACEBOOK AND WHATSAPP..
There is no truth in this message.
Even at its least distance from the Earth, Mars would remain only a bright speck in the night sky and be nowhere close to the size of the moon as seen from Earth. Some of the images accompanying the messages suggest that August 27, 2014 would be a full moon night but in fact it would be a waxing moon that will be only 2.35% full. But the next full moon, on September 9, is last super moon of the year.
